Synopsis:
As the Vault heroes regain their composure following the attack on the Asylum by the Shroud and his minions, Nightveil and Dragonfly return to Femforce HQ. There they find their teammates watching the viewers with alarm as reports come streaming in that Florida is being terrorized by a locust-like swarm of villains, monsters, and other menaces. Meanwhile, Paragon and the Sentinels are lending assistance at the Weir Asylum when an emergency distress message is received from Ms. Victory. The transmission is suddenly cut off, and a reconnoiter by Stardust reveals that a massive black dome has covered the entire state of Florida (including Jungle Island), cutting off the Femforce from any aid.

While some of the Sentinels and Vault heroes pound away at the barrier, the Femforce split up to battle the evil menaces ravaging Florida. The individual members soundly defeat each of their opponents, who instantly teleport from the battle scene to their rendezvous point on Jungle Island, temporarily halting the Shroud's reign of terror. Back at Femforce HQ, the Femforce discover through Nightveil's mystic senses that the Shroud has started to widen the dimensional gateway through his electronic apparatus hidden in the island's subterranean caverns. Ms. Victory resolves to make the lonely, suicidal solo effort to destroy the machine while the rest of the Femforce launch a frontal diversionary attack on the island's evil denizens. As Ms. Victory wreaks havoc on the Shroud's unprotected equipment, she is unaware that the Vault heroes and the Sentinels are looking on in terror, desperate to reach her before she can close the portal. They have entered the dimension of the voracious Elder Gods via the Well of Souls in Vietnam, planning to traverse the dark realm and emerge through the Jungle Island gateway. If Ms. Victory succeeds in closing the portal, the heroes will be trapped forever, living sacrifices to the Elder Gods. Meanwhile, at Latimer Labs, Dr. Jimenez is startled to discover an equally startled Buckaroo Betty emerge from the Time Triangle.

Notes:
Nightveil notices Dragonfly's savage behavior but does not understand it.... The criminals do the Shroud's bidding unsuspecting that he plans to sacrifice them to the Elder Gods as well.... Darkfire's subconscious pleas to call Betty are a portent to the alliance with Buckaroo Betty that leads to the Shroud's defeat in FF 36.... The dome, as Green Lama explains, is actually a sphere which penetrates underground, making a subterranean assault impossible; as seen in FF 36, this dome is actually the Shade.... Jen is at her most heroic in this story; her quick grasp of tactics, strong leadership, and selfless courage elicit at least grudging admiration from even her hostile teammates.... Colt is seen in a drunken state at Rad's house party, oblivious to the threat to humanity.... She-Cat's possession by Sehkmet is a frightening indication that the bond between her and Octavia Howard is rapidly weakening due to the latter's de-aging.... The Green Lama protects the heroes with a spell of concealment as they pass through the realm of the Elder Gods.
