Synopsis:
As the Femforce hold a meeting to discuss Tara's report of
her recent Jungle Island experiences with the Black Shroud,
the team realizes that one of their number is missing. For
some strange reason, no one can remember who she is until
Nightveil suddenly materializes and tells them that all
traces of their erstwhile comrade Thunderfox, including
memories of her, have ceased to exist. Nightveil then
reports how she and Dr, Weir retrieved his buried Purple
Claw and then met with Paragon, who has assembled the
Sentinels for the upcoming battle. Meanwhile, the Black
Commando pays a visit to Rad to get some information on
Margold and Benton, but his amorous advances get a splash of
cold water by the sudden appearance of Colt, who is looking
to hook up with Rad following Colt's dismissal from the
Femforce. At the Weir Asylum, Darkfire sits, still lost in
the recesses of her mind. Her inner senses are bombarded by
visions of attacks from heroes old and new, including the
Femforce and a number of the Vault heroes. Her inner torment
is generated by sensing the combined brainwaves of the Vault
heroes, who have all been revived by Weir to face the dire
peril of the Shroud. As old friends are reunited and new
relationships are formed, the asylum is suddenly struck by a
mysterious attack that leaves the Vault in ruins. As the
heroes breathe a sigh of relief over their narrow escape,
they are unaware that the destruction has unleashed a
mysterious menace form the Vault's depths.

Notes:
Jen's pose in the first panel on page 3 is very similar
to the cover of FF 60.... The main body of the team learns
for the first time of two important events: the gathering of
good and evil for the battle with the Shroud, and the full
restoration of Nightveil's powers.... Nightveil tells how
Weir used his other talisman - the Ibistick - to recover his
Purple Claw.... Paragon mentions calling in the services of
the Justice Squadron, at the same time doubting the success
of his efforts.... Colt's seeking out Rad is the first stage
of the low period in her life following her dismissal....
Although Darkfire's mind was originally thought to have been
virtually erased by the her Menta-helmet (in Black Diamond 2
(1)), it has actually expanded to an incredible degree, as
Weir describes in Out of the Asylum and in this story....
The Valkyrie unit has appeared previously, in Black
Diamond's title, but this is the only appearance of these
particular ladies.... Synn puzzles both Nightveil and
She-Cat with her strange ability to see that the Haunted
Horseman has been doing well since his death, a fact of
supreme importance during the Shroud wars.... Because so
many heroes make so many brief appearances during the Shroud
wars, liberties have been taken with the character listings,
and indications as to whether or not a hero's appearance is
a cameo have been temporarily suspended. It is assumed that
all of the revived Vault heroes appear, however
insignificantly, in FF 29.
