FEMFORCE #38

COVER: C. Bradford Gorby

EDITORIAL CONTENT: Back cover pin-up of Ms. Victory's 50th Anniversary; Ms. V pin-up

MILESTONES: None

1st Story: Untitled (Ms. Victory story)(8 pgs)

Credits:
The Count, story / layouts; John Nadeau, pencils; John Robinson, inks; Walt Paisley, letters; Bill Black, edits / dialogue

Synopsis:
Jennifer Burke lands at Femforce HQ after a practice session with her flight disc and finds an angry General Gordon ready to arrest her for the theft of the Time Triangle from Latimer Labs. Kelly gets Jen off the hook by verifying that Rad was the true culprit. Gordon's lecherous attempt to make up with Jen is seen from a distance and misinterpreted, as usual, by She-Cat . Stardust notices the resemblance between Rad and Ms. Victory, but Cat surmises that it must be a side effect of the V-47 drug. Also at FF HQ, though in hiding, is the Black Commando. Mistaking Gordon's presence as an indication that they are tracking him down, Barton launches a preemptive strike, destroying Gordon's helicopter and leaving his calling card before retreating into the sewers, still hellbent on destroying the creators of V-45.

Notes:
Costumes:
1st app in Femforce of the sleeveless outfit The Black Commando sports in the She-Cat solo series.... Rad is seen in cameo in the photograph Gordon shows Jen when he accuses her of the Time Triangle theft.... She-Cat's and Stardust's remarks about Jen are further evidence that they are unaware of her true identity.... Barton believes that Gordon is after him to silence him and to keep him from revealing Gordon's involvement with Barton as seen in She-Cat.... Kelly's growing lack of respect for General Gordon is evident in the condescending way Kelly speaks to him.

2nd Story: Untitled (Rad story) (7 pgs)

Credits:
The Count, story / layouts; Bill Marimon, pencils; Chad Hunt, inks; Walt Paisley, letters; Bill Black, edits

Synopsis:
Rad's lust for money is so intense that even the 100 million dollars she took from Fritz Voltzman is not enough to satisfy it. She takes half of her bankroll and heads for Atlantic City, where she ends up blowing her money (and her temper) after a run of bad luck. At her health food store the next morning, she is visited by Federal agents who try to arrest her, but they only succeed in providing a welcome target for Rad's seething anger. After the battered agents leave, an old woman enters the shop inquiring about the same youth formula that Rad sold to Mrs. Van Gelt. Rad, still in a foul mood, kicks her out, and an aged, frustrated Lady Luger rejoins Voltzman, resolving to get her hands on the vitamin in the very near future.

Notes:
Rad goes to Atlantic City because she believes the Vegas tables are fixed.... Joan Wayne's extensive experience in the government would understandably account for her instinctive "sniffing out" of the Federal agents.... Rad's morals have sunk to the level at which she is willing to buy a judge to get her out of trouble with the Feds.... Fritz makes no secret of his lustful desire to have Luger regain her youthful beauty.

3rd Story: Untitled (Blue Bulleteer story) (15 pgs)

Credits:
Mark Heike, writer; C. Brad Gorby, pencils; Chad Hunt, inks; Walt Paisley, letters; Bill Black, edits

Synopsis:
At the Wright home in Washington D.C., Laura grieves over Dan Barton's death, unaware that the Black Commando, driven insane by V-45, lies in top secret stasis at the Pentagon. Meanwhile, elsewhere in Washington, Lady Luger has heard the news of Barton's reported death and plots to exploit the public's ignorance of the event by having one of her henchmen, Franz, portray the Commando himself. An evil Black Commando fighting alongside marauding Nazis would be an irreparable blow to the faith and morale of the American people. Senator Wright and Laura attend her aunt's charity auction, where Laura learns with shock that the Black Commando is on hand to provide security. As she forces her way through the crowd to reach the masked figure, Luger enters with her thugs and begins a wanton spree of robbing and killing. Laura slips away and changes to the Blue Bulleteer, launching an attack of her own. Her reluctance to fire at the Commando almost costs Laura her life as Franz gets a death grip on her windpipe. The police arrive and take out most of the thugs, but Luger and Franz escape. The Blue Bulleteer resumes her Laura Wright identity. She is still shaky from her experience, but she has the satisfaction of being convinced that the Commando she fought is definitely an impostor.

Time

Magic & Technology

Barton's stasis chamber; Luger's whip; Bulleteer's guns; Nazi's guns

Notes:
At this point, the Dan Barton cover-up takes place on two levels: those who know him, like the Wrights, are told that he is dead rather than insane, and the general public is not even informed of his death.... Since the now-crazed Barton attacked Joan Wayne before being put in stasis and before Joan fully gained her powers (as seen in Untold Origin of Ms. Victory), this dates the Blue Bulleteer's career as beginning prior to Miss Victory's and prior to the formation of the Femforce.... Since Barton is being kept at the Pentagon at this point, the events in this story likely predate the formation of the Colorado Project as well.... Senator Wright is shown to be aware of Laura's training and her plans to fight alongside the Commando, but he does not know that she is the Blue Bulleteer, fighting on alone after Dan's death.... Since Lady Luger is shown being transported to America by Voltzman in Femforce Special 1, the events of which occur after this story, we must assume that she was either deported or escaped following her capture in the second part of this story (in FF 39 (2)) and did not return to America until being transported back by Voltzman. She must have again returned to Germany following her battle with the Femforce, since she is seen battling the team alongside Panzer at the end of the war in 1945 (FF 37).
