MILESTONES: Conclusion of Capt.Paragon identity storyline; Paragon drops the ''Captain" from his name; Origin and death of the Haunted Horseman

1st Story: Frontier Justice (17 pgs)

Synopsis:
As the Haunted Horseman rides through the Texas night, he is suddenly confronted by Nightveil. The two mystic beings realize that they are each responsible for the drain in each others' powers. As the Horseman relates his origin, Nightveil recognizes it as identical to her own, and that the two Cloaks of Darkness each wears are in fact the same one. The two cloaks can not coexist, however, and when they touch the Horseman is killed, leaving Laura's powers at their lowest ebb. On the outskirts of Apache, Senator Clane frees Klyness, planning to use him as a distraction so he can flee the area with young Matt Powers as a hostage. Klyness kills Clane, however, and takes Matt to town himself, where he uses him lo draw out Latigo, whom he knows to be the future Captain Paragon. Inside the hotel, Doc reveals his own secret to Charlie and explains how Charlie's powers are essentially mind over matter. A reluctant but courageous Starrett faces Klyness in the street at a critical moment where the future Paragon and the past Latigo briefly merge. Through Latigo's paranormal abilities, his still-damaged gun fires. His fast draw succeeds in blowing the Kronon's arm off, saving Matt.

In the present, Paragon, secure in his identity, thanks the Shade for his help and races back to Earth as Atoman and the military battle Colt, Tara, the Scarlet Scorpion, and Captain Freedom for control of the time machine. As Atoman is about to level the Scorpion, all of the heroes, including those that had been in the past, appear in the lab.

Notes:
Ms. V and Nightveil leave for Florida immediately after this story, where they suffer through the events of NV 7 (1).... Deathshead does not reappear in the AC Universe.... Steve Reynolds does not appear as the Durango Kid.... The amount of mind control that Leiber will exert on Paragon is hinted at here.... Paragon's next appearance as the Latigo Kid is in the Kid's solo book.... The strange change in Matt Powers after his rescue is not explicitly explained.... Dragonfly's and Astron's appearance at the end with all the other heroes is presumably in answer to the call placed by the Liberty Corps in S of J 6.

2nd Story: What is LSD (7 pgs)

Credits:
Bill Black, story / art

Synopsis:
With Synn's psi-powers uncontrollable and unpredictable, Atoman takes her to a detainment center beneath the streets of Washington. In the lounge, Synn is greeted by a number of people who have been freakishly deformed by chemical experiments, and she flees in terror. Later that night, in her room, a tripper named Heavenly visits and offers to transport them out of the complex, as she did with her friend Marnie. At the other time and place they arrive in, Heavenly finds Marnie's mangled body. A strange man tells them that this is the night of the Beast, whose strange compulsion power draws Synn out of the house. She is attacked and injured by the Beast, but Heavenly transports the two of them back to the LSD complex, where Synn uses her mind powers to heal herself.
