About CustomCon

CustomCon is a fictional toy show showcasing the work of several customizers. You will not find these toys in your local toy store.

The rights to produce figures and statues based on Final Fantasy VII and VIII, including all Final Fantasy games, is currently shared by Bandai and Palisade. However, all that is over. Square, the company that created the Final Fantasy RPG games, as well as several other popular RPG games, recently entered into contract with Drallop Collectibles, a new company in the toy industry. Unlike Bandai, Drallop has the rights to produce action figures based on ALL Square games. So, how did Drallop acquire this license?

Read on.

CustomCon: How did a relative unknown acquire the rights to produce figures based on Square's video games?

Drallop Collectibles: First off, Bandai never took the license seriously. Their Final Fantasy VII line only had seven figures in the line, with limited movement, and shotty paint jobs. Their Final Fantasy VIII line included all the main characters, yet it was still lacking quality. If you look at the figures, you'll see they're made very poorly. The plastic is extremely soft and pliable, and the limbs aren't firmly attached (they literally just fall off). When we approached Square about this, as well as showed them some concept sculpts, they were instantly hooked.

CC: Where does this leave Palisade?

DC: Palisade isn't involved with this at all. They've done some excellent work, and they'll continue to produce statues based on the Final Fantasy characters.Basically, we're just taking Bandai's place in the property share.

CC: What will your first line be?

DC: We considered Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy VIII, but decided against it. Then, we thought Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger, since several of our sculpters love those games. Yet, those aren't as wide-spread. So, we decided to even things out. We've got the license for all the characters, why not combine it? The result was a toy line called RPG Legends.

CC: What characters will be included in it?

DC: We decided to ride the coattails of Final Fantasy VIII by adding Squall Leonhart to the line-up. Also included is Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Kefka from Final Fantasy VI, Fei Fong Wong from Xenogears, and Crono from Chrono Trigger.

CC: Why not Cloud Strife of FF7?

DC: Cloud was originally planned, but we decided that only one character from one game would be best. It came down as a choice between Cloud and Sephiroth, and we chose Sephiroth.

CC: Any plans for future lines?

DC: Cloud will definately appear in Wave 2. Ramza Beoulve of Final Fantasy Tactics is a possibility, same with Seifer Almasy from Final Fantasy VIII. Other figures will depend on how well this line does. I know a few sculpters are looking forward to taking a shot at Umaro from Final Fantasy VI.

CC: All right, that's all the questions I have. Good luck with the line, and after seeing these prototypes, I hope it continues.

DC: Thanks.

A due date has not been finalized yet, but a tentative date is possibly late November to mid-December, just in time for the holiday shopping season, as well as the release of Final Fantasy IX.

All the figures come with some sort of accessory as well as an individual stand.

Crono

Fei Fong Wong

The silent, time-traveling teenager will also come with his sword and a cloth tunic which can be removed. His stand is the Chrono Trigger symbol.

Like Kefka, Fei's accessories are hard to determine. He might be packaged with a mini version of one of the three Gears he uses in the game. His stand will be a giant X, which is the symbol for Xenogears.

Sephiroth

Squall Leonhart

Sephiroth, naturally, comes with his Masamune Blade, and when a light is placed above his head, his eyes will light up. His stand is the Final Fantasy VII symbol (a giant meteor).

Squall comes with his trusty gunblade, naturally. His stand is his necklace, Griever.

Kefka

The villain everyone loves to hate. Kefka's accessories are a bit difficult to decide upon.
Some want him to come with the three Statues, others want him to come with a mace.
As of now, we're leaning towards the Statues. His stand will be an outline of his jester-like make-up.
