Auburn Hills, Mich. – Dodge announced pricing today for the all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger. The U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) will start at $21,995, which includes $675 for destination. Dodge dealers across the country are now taking orders for the 2009 Dodge Challenger, which will arrive this fall.

2009 Dodge Challenger SE
With a U.S. MSRP of $21,995 (including $675 destination), the Dodge Challenger SE comes standard with a 3.5-liter High Output V-6 engine which produces 250 horsepower (186 kW) and 250 lb.-ft. (339 N•m) of torque. Mated with a four-speed automatic transmission, the Dodge Challenger SE achieves an estimated 18 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

2009 Dodge Challenger R/T
The U.S. MSRP for the all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T is $29,995. Featuring the new-generation 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine, the Dodge Challenger R/T produces an estimated 370 horsepower (276 kW) and 398 lb.-ft. (540 N•m) of torque when paired with the standard five-speed automatic transmission. The 5.7-liter HEMI engine with five-speed automatic transmission is equipped with fuel-saving multi-displacement (MDS) technology which increases fuel economy by as much as 20 percent without sacrificing performance.

Dodge Challenger SRT8
The U.S. MSRP for the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is $39,995 (including $675 destination). The 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 offers an available six-speed manual transmission or standard five-speed automatic transmission mated to the SRT-exclusive 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine that produces 425 horsepower (317 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. (569 N•m) of torque. New for 2009 is a standard limited-slip differential, High Performance Red and B5 Blue (late availability) exterior paint and black hood stripes. A classic “pistol-grip” shifter is included with the available Track Pak which includes the Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission with Hill-start Assist.

Three models will be offered in for the 2009 model year including the Dodge Challenger SE, Dodge Challenger R/T and Dodge Challenger SRT8.

The Challenger RT will come with the new-generation 5.7-liter HEMI V8 mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission producing 370 horsepower and 398 ft-lbs of torque.  An optional precision-shift six-speed manual transmission with pistol grip handle is also available, horsepower & torque increase to 375 and 404 respectively with this option.

For 2009, the HEMI engine is upgraded to get an estimated five percent improvement in fuel economy as well as an increase of 30 horsepower (9 percent) and 8 lb.-ft. improved torque (2 percent) over a greater range of engine speeds. The Dodge Challenger R/T also offers a precision-shift six-speed manual transmission - the first for a new-generation HEMI-powered car - that produces 375 horsepower (280 kW) and 404 lb.-ft. of torque (548 N•m) when running on premium fuel. The Dodge Challenger R/T can go from zero to 60 mph in less than six seconds.
The 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 features an SRT-exclusive 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine mated with a new-for-2009 six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic transmission with Auto Stick that generates a blistering 425 horsepower (317 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque (569 N•m). The vehicle can go from zero to 60 mph in less than five seconds.

Patterned off the Dodge Charger architecture, the front suspension and five-link independent rear suspension system on all Dodge Challenger models provide excellent ride and handling characteristics.
Essential Styling
The Dodge Challenger design team stayed true to the concept revealed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, while drawing upon elements from the original Challenger. The result: a bold, aggressive muscle machine that blends nostalgia with modern Dodge style.

Retro dual rectangular exhaust outlets complete the look from the rear.
On the interior, the trapezoidal theme of the door-panel cove and gauge cluster, dark headliner and slanted shifter console are inspired by the original Dodge Challenger. The new Dodge Challenger SRT8 was revealed on February 6th. It's a beautiful car on the outside, but kind of plain on the inside. What happened from concept to production? It looks like Dodge pulled some parts from other cars rather then do a redesign of the dashboard.


The gauges on the Dodge Challenger concept were designed to look like engine cylinders.



This is the dashboard from the Dodge Challenger concept car. Notice the trapezoid shapes everywhere. The dash and console have a nice contrast. I love that 3 pronged steering wheel and the pistol grip shifter.



Here is another concept dashboard for the Dodge Challenger. They refined the gauges on this one. I like the silver color frame around the gauges. I hope this makes it into the 2009 model. The pistol grip shifter is gone and the radio and temperature dials are from the current parts bin. So is the steering wheel, which is the same as on the Dodge Charger and Magnum.



Here is the official 2008 Dodge Challenger dashboard. The gauges have been changed to look like the Dodge Charger with raised bezels and chrome rings. There is now a recessed area around the temperature gauges. This dashboard looks kind of boring. It needs some contrasting chrome or colored panels.



Here is the current Dodge Charger and Dodge Magnum dashboard. Notice the same steering wheel and the similarly styled chrome ringed gauged cluster. At least this dashboard has contrasting colors in the panels and face plates.



Just for fun, here is the dashboard from a 1973 Dodge Charger. Notice it also has raised bezels with chrome rings on it. I really like this steering wheel which inspired the Dodge Challenger concept car steering wheel design. The dash also has a splash of color to it.

Here are some photos of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. There will only be 6,400 Challenger SRT8's produced for the 2008 model year. To help indicate the exclusivity of this model, each vehicle will wear a unique interior dash plaque, 1 of 6,400 similar to the plaques on the Charger Daytona and Super Bee. If you miss out on the limited 2008 model, you will have to order a 2009 model.

On Monday December 3, 2007, Dodge started taking preorders for the 2008 Dodge Challenger. On the first day more that 4,300 people put down a deposit for a Challenger. As of today, more than 6,600 people have placed preorders. It looks like Dodge will have a big seller on their hands.

Dodge has announced the pricing for the SRT version of the 2008 Dodge Challenger. Normally Dodge releases the SRT version after the regular production models. This time around they are releasing a limited number of SRT models first, before the normal production run.

$37,995 plus $2,100 Gas-guzzler penalty = $40,095 Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price.
Add on Dealer mark-up, fees and taxes and you might pay $43,000 to $50,000 for one of the limited run 2008 Challenger SRT8.

Due to unprecedented demand, Dodge dealers will begin taking orders on Dec. 3 for the limited-edition 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 models. Each will feature a numbered dash plaque and a 6.1-liter HEMI® V-8 engine. 2008 Challenger SRT8 models will be available in Black, Silver and HEMI Orange. All will feature dual “carbon-fiber” hood stripes, harkening back to the original Dodge Challenger.

“The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 offers pure American pony-car muscle,” said James Press, Vice Chairman & President – Chrysler LLC. “With styling that stays true to Challenger’s original heritage, an abundance of modern amenities and cutting-edge technology, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will deliver the SRT credo of benchmark performance at a tremendous value.

The all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be built at the Chrysler Canada Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario, on the same assembly line with the Dodge Charger, Charger SRT8, Magnum, Magnum SRT8, Chrysler 300 and Chrysler 300 SRT8 vehicles.

Pricing for the complete all-new Dodge Challenger lineup will be announced at a later date.

Photos of the production version of the 2008 Dodge Challenger have surfaced from a dealer event in Vegas.



The front grill looks like the 1970's version and not the cross-hair style that was on the concept car.



The B-pillar doesn't look that big. The rear bumper is bigger to improve safety.



The rear end has tail lights and a rear trunk lid spoiler like the 1970 Dodge Challenger.

I can't wait to see what the production version of the Dodge Challenger will look like when revealed in February 2008.
I saw a photo of a test vehicle that may reveal a design change from the original concept car.
If you look closely you can see that the front grill does not have the Dodge cross-hair design. Instead it is an open design similar to the one on the 1970 Challenger.

Other photos hinted at a change in the tail lights of the car as well.

Recently while toy shopping, I found an radio controlled Dodge Challenger from "1 Badd Ride" that had a cool redesign of the concept car.


The toy car had redesigned tail lights as well as the open grill from the 1970 Challenger. The Dodge cross-hairs were moved down to the lower air intake opening, replacing the "CARS" movie smile styled opening. The toy car that I bought was silver with black stripes instead of the red version pictured above.

Mopar Enthusiast magazine had some similar concept drawings for their version of the Dodge Challenger.



I hope that Dodge makes the production version similar to these designs.

I've been keeping my eye on any NEWS about the 2009 Dodge Challenger.
The production version will be shown at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2008.

Cerberus, the new owners of Chrysler, may reduce the number of Dodge Challengers that are planned to be produced. This may make it more of a specialty car with a higher price tag in the showroom because of demand by Mopar fans. It has already been announced that the Challenger will not be available in Europe.



Mopar fans hope to get a 6 speed manual transmission as well as an automatic transmission with the 5.7 and 6.1-liter HEMI V8. They also hope for a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 version. Dodge has confirmed that there will be an SRT version of the Challenger.

I hope that there will be a low cost entry level version that will be available with the 3.5-litre V6 and an automatic transmission. Ford offers a similar V6 Pony package on the Mustang.

Dodge showed off their new Dodge Challenger concept car at the Detroit Auto Show. It's a modern muscle car based on the 1970 design of the Challenger. I think that it looks great ! Other Mopar fans agree and want Dodge to make this car as soon as possible. It could become a 2008 model.
